How Would You Spend $1.2 Billion – May 5, 2021

Child care is essential. The American Rescue Plan Act is delivering nearly $1.2 billion to Pennsylvania specifically for early childhood education but it’s up to us how to spend it.

Throughout the month, child care providers and the families they support are having their say on how to best use those dollars through a dozen virtual forums statewide. Last Friday, providers and parents in Montgomery County spoke out and the messages were clear: we need help hiring qualified teachers and keeping our services high-quality and affordable.

“Right now I have waiting lists at three of my centers because I don’t have any staff,” said Tana Rinehart of Warwick Child Care Center. “It’s an issue of access to care for families. They can’t enroll their children if we don’t have quality staff.”
