All of us can do things in our everyday lives to make the world a better place for kids. Here are a few simple things you can do:
* Become a member of PCCY and be a special advocate and write letters and make phone calls to local area decision makers on one topic each month (we provide the topic). * Be the emergency phone contact for a neighborhood child whose parents work. * Be sure there are no dangerous or toxic materials in your home. * Give up one lunch a week and donate the proceeds to a local food bank to feed hungry children. * Hold a yard sale and donate the profits to an after-school program. * Sit with a sick child at a local hospital one hour a week. * Learn which elected officials support childrens issues and vote for them. * Learn which elected officials do not support childrens issues and call, write or e-mail them to let them know you want them to start supporting childrens issues. * Help the children on your block create a neighborhood garden. * Refuse to buy or give toy guns or any other toy that promotes violence. * Form a library group and take the neighborhood children to the library once a month. * Institute or encourage flex time policy at work that allows fellow workers to attend school related activities for their children. * Ask your social club, sorority, fraternity, employer or church to adopt a school or class. Be a voice for children!
