Governor Wolf’s Proposed Budget is a $1 Billion Win for Children and Homeowners in Southeastern Pennsylvania

Provides New Investments in Schools and Property Tax Relief for Homeowners

PHILADELPHIA (March 3rd, 2015) – Governor Tom Wolf’s proposed budget will net Southeastern Pennsylvania with more than a $1 billion in funding for schools and property tax relief, according to new analysis from Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY).

PCCY finds that the Governor’s budget proposal will invest $217 million more in state funding for schools in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia for the 2015-2016 school year. Additionally, the Governor’s property tax relief plan will save homeowners in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs $835 million in fiscal year 2016-2017.

“The Governor put forth a bold budget proposal that is a step in the right direction for schools and homeowners burdened by years of state disinvestment in education. This budget is a win for kids and puts resources into classrooms without saddling homeowners with the bill,” said Donna Cooper, executive director for PCCY. “We hope leaders in the State House and Senate see this proposal as a win for both their parties and the constituents they represent.”
