DA Seth Williams Wants To See Pre-K Ballot Question Approved – CBS3 – May 18, 2015

Philadelphia’s district attorney is urging voters to approve a question on tomorrow’s ballot that would create a panel to recommend a plan for provide for universal pre-kindergarten.

Why is DA Seth Williams pushing a “yes” vote on the pre-K ballot question?

“The most valuable crime prevention tool is education,” Williams tells KYW Newsradio.

And Williams says if kids drop out of school, they are eight times more likely to wind up in state prison.

“When kids start behind, they’re not ready socially,” he explains.  “They’re not ready academically for first grade.  Too often they fall behind and can never catch up.”

So, today, Williams stood with children in front of a mock voting booth at City Hall.

Ballot question #4 asks city voters if the city should empanel a 17-member commission to recommend a plan to provide pre-kindergarten programs for all three- and four-year-olds.
