On Friday October 9, 101 days after the beginning of the new fiscal year, the Pennsylvania General Assembly approved a budget for FY 2009-2010.

After reading through the PDF of the budget comparison – tell us what you think.

The PDF is designed to help you compare the state appropriation for these programs this year and last. Cuts to the 2008-2009 budget were made twice over the past year. For the sake of comparison, we have included numbers in the first column reflecting the budget that was enacted by the General Assembly in July, 2008 – not the budget that was revised during the course of the year. Likewise, the 2009-2010 budget that the Governor proposed on February 4, 2009 was subsequently revised to reflect the availability of ARRA funds and declining state revenue. We have included the Governor’s original proposal here, not the revised proposal.

Keep in mind that a number of programs listed here will also be funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA – the economic stimulus package). Check this site in the next few days for information about the impact of the ARRA on overall funding for these programs.
