The Wilbur Hobbs "True Friend of Children Award"

Estelle B. Richman, former Secretary of the PA Department of Public Welfare, and Managing Director and Health Commissioner of Philadelphia. Estelle’s work over many years has been championing those who need championing. She will continue to combine strength, wisdom and compassion as she helps lead the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Wilbur Hobbs Award is given by PCCY to those who have demonstrated concern for children, youth and families in our region and made a difference in their lives.

The Lucy Sayre "Community Spirit Founders Award"

Sarah Martinez-Helfman and the Eagles Youth Partnership for outstanding work in the community to help meet the vision health care needs of low income children.

Sarah Martinez-Helfman, founding Executive Director of Eagles Youth Partnership, has developed the organization into a model of excellence and impact in the national field of sports philanthropy. Sarah has devoted much of her career to working with young people. She has helped develop two National Service AmeriCorps Programs, has served as Chief Clinician of a residential treatment center for adolescent males in the juvenile justice system and as the lead advocate of a Rape Crisis Center. Sarah also spent three years in Europe, advising philanthropists on their charitable giving in England, Ireland, and Russia.  A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Sarah earned her B.A. in English Literature and her M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology. She also holds certificates as a trainer of diversity, conflict resolution and nonprofit management. Having lived in four countries, she now is happily settled with her family in the Philadelphia area. Her simple mission in life is to leave the world better than she found it.

Eagles Youth Partnership (EYP) was founded in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) public charity. The organization helps children, who are born into poverty, to reach their potential, bringing health and educational resources to more than 50,000 kids each year who are facing ‘4th & long’ odds. Leveraging the brand and resources of the Philadelphia Eagles Football Club, which is the organization’s largest donor, EYP inspires children with hope and provides for concrete needs – like safe spaces to learn and play, vision care and eyeglasses, and books, books and more books – so that they can imagine a future of bright with promise and so that they have a pathway, through their education, to get there.

Kevin Rodgers and the High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) for contributions to creativity, the arts, and teaching in Philadelphia schools and for providing entertainment for our annual Super Party for close to 20 years.

Kevin Rodgers was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, having attended Penn Treaty Junior High School and Graduating from Central High. Following Graduation from Temple University, He worked as a professional musician, including performances with Johnny Mathis, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Nancy Wilson, The Temptations and many others. During his 35 year career with the School district of Philadelphia, he served as an itinerant instrumental music teacher and Director of Music Ensembles at the High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. He has also taught at St. Joseph’s University and Swarthmore College, and is currently an Associate Professor at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa.

High School of Creative and Performing Arts nurtures the creative talents and aspirations of their students within an academic/arts college preparatory program. In a multicultural environment, they provide a comprehensive and sequenced program of study in the six arts disciplines - creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, vocal music, and visual arts, as well as rigorous pre-college academic instruction across the curriculum. Their graduates demonstrate a mastery of defined skills that will enable them to be productive, self-directed, lifelong learners, who appreciate and respect diversity.

The Lucy Sayre Award is given by PCCY to those who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer achievements for children, youth and families in our region.
